CAFOD Assembly
CAFOD Assembly
On the 1 November 2021 Dee from CAFOD came to talk to us about looking after our planet and COP26. She opened the assembly to talk to us about what CAFOD actually stands for. CAFOD stands for Catholic Agency For Overseas Development. To help CAFOD's Go Green campaign we were taught about: planting more crops, reducing the amount of plastic we use and donating money to CAFOD for children all around the world. CAFOD help gets clean water, enough food, doctors, nurses and schools. If they raise enough money they may be able to help the Amazon rainforest become better and greener. Later in the year we will hold a fundraiser, everything we raise will go towards this cause.

The New School Year Mass
The New School Year Mass
On Friday 1st October, me, the other faith leaders and the head boy and girl went to St George's Cathedral with Mr Ringham. We went by train, when we got there we genuflected before sitting down. After the Mass we met Bishop John and Mr Ringham had a chat with him. It was a really nice service and I'm glad I could go.

Faith Leaders
Faith Leaders
This year I have introduced the role of Faith Leader for our Year 6 children. These children have proven themselves to be great role models. As the year progresses, they will be key in helping to promote the Catholic ethos of the school. They will be helping with: assemblies, Collective Worship, Masses, organising fundraising and will be ambassadors for the school.
Well done to Ann, Hope-Rachel, Nayeli, Blessing, Nemuel and Daniel.

The Holy Rosary
The Holy Rosary
The Holy Rosary
This month, October, is the month of the Holy Rosary. At OLSPN we have been learning how to pray the Rosary and about the Mysteries of the Rosary, The four Mysteries are Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious & Luminous. The Mysteries each have special events in them for example: the Joyful Mysteries have four events: The Annunciation, The visitation, The birth of Jesus and The presentation of the temple. They have been categorized into the Joyful Mysteries because these events are Happy and Joyful Occasions. The school has been sharing weekly prayers with parents and carers so they can also join in at home. When praying the Rosary it can be broken into decades with the Hail Mary, Glory Be, the Lord's Prayer and so much more. Click the link here:How to pray the Rosary

Stations of the Cross
Stations of the Cross
Every Friday during Lent we have been holding Stations of the Cross in our school hall. Led by our Faith Leaders, it has allowed parents and pupils to follow Jesus on his journey. For the last few years we have held this online, so it has been great to see the hall full of people again!

KS1 in the hall with a great Easter celebration.
KS2 gathered in church to sing Easter songs and hear the story of Jesus' crucifixion.
Curriculum
Our faith is at the heart of our school. Religious Education is one of the core subjects at Our Lady and St Philip Neri school. The school follows the Catholic approved The Way, The Truth and The Life scheme of work as well as studying Judaism, Islam, Hinduism and Sikhism.
We look to develop a deeper knowledge, understanding and love of the Word Of God, as revealed in the Scriptures and the teaching of the Church.
We also use the Ten Ten resources for Collective Worship.
RE is taught within classes and in assemblies, and usually through attending mass, sacraments of reconciliation and school visits.
